The following week after the project, the students were given four questions in order for us to learn a little about what they thought about their time with Robert.  They were also invited to express in their own way anything else they wanted to say about their experience.

These are the results: -

What did you think about this music project?

It was an exciting experience.  Now I know more about music and my English is better.

Very different, but good fun.

I think the sound we made was a combination of the good thing and the bad thing, but it was a good sound in my ear.

It was a bit boring in the start but it got better later.  If anything like this comes again I would like to be in it too.

It was very exciting and good fun.

It was fun to do something else other than sing from notes.  It was a bit boring in the beginning, but later it was fun.

I think this music project was good fun to do.

It was fun, and I learnt a lot about music and English

It was just such fun to play with you – maybe a kind of strange but good fun

I think at first it was a little boring but it became more fun.

It was good fun to play a new kind of music.

It was good fun to join in the project - something different.  I also got new friends.

I think it was fun to meet a new kind of music.

Sometimes it was boring – sometimes it was fun.

It was good fun.

It was very good, because it was very different from what we usually play.

The project was different and it was very exciting to show it at the theatre..

I think the music project was fun because it sounded good when we played all the different instruments.

How has it changed the way you think about music?

Before I thought that music was just singers with a microphone, and music which sounded very wild, but now I know it also can be different.

I think it has changed the way I think.  When we stood on the stage it was a fantastic feeling.  I notice some things now I did not notice before.

Before I came to the project I would have thought you only could play after notes.

The way I listen to the music.

I found out that I could play some tunes even if I couldn’t read notes.

It has changed my way of looking at music a little bit, but not much.  When I was sitting at home on Friday I missed it.  I learnt that you can get a very good friendship by just playing music with somebody.

Not very much, but when I listen to music I think about which instruments they play.

That you don’t have to play music from notes, and that it is actually more fun to make your own music.

I am now more interested in music.

I learnt that music does not have to be a tune - it can also just be a sound.

Your way to play music was a very special way, but I would think on your way to play any time I play my own kind of music.

That you can make/create music without notes.

I think much more different about music now.

I like playing music.

It has not changed the way I think about music.

As a picture – music doesn’t have to be boring it can be good fun as well.

Music is music, even if it sounds wrong in our ears.

It has changed much.  Now I can play many more rhythms.  I just thought that you just play music, and it’s sometimes boring.  This was fun.

Has the project helped you to be a better musician?  If so, how?

Yes it has – but it is difficult to say how.

Now I know how music can be.

Yes, it has helped me to be a better musician.  When I see a big picture or painting now I remember this project.

No, because I have always loved music.

I don’t know.

It has taught me that music is music and it doesn’t matter if it sounds wrong

It has taught me to notice the different sounds that you usually don’t notice.

Yes, the music project has helped me to have more rhythm in my music.  I have also learnt to be better at working together with other people.

No, it hasn’t.

When I play blues on my clarinet I would make more of improvising as it is good fun.  It is boring to play sweet music after notes.  So now I think I’m a better musician, and thanks for that.

Yes, I have learnt to use eye contact when I play together with another person, and that a lot can happen in a piece of music.

No, I don’t think I have become a better musician.

We have become more independent.

I have become more independent.

I think it has helped me a lot.

What will you remember most about the project?

You, and a very good experience.

A strange man – and you had to speak English.  And, of course, the different way of making music – making a sound in a tube.

The concert.

The way we played the sounds.

The different sounds we made.

I remember a funny man with a big musical talent and a willpower of steel.  But I willingly make a project with him again another time.

That I had to play a solo because I had never tried that before and certainly not for so many people.

That we made our own music, and that it was fun and that we didn’t have normal classes.  The concert was also much fun.

I will remember the concert.  It was a big experience to play in front of so many people.

I will remember the concert and the many different sounds.

I think that would be the concert.  It was just so exciting.

The concert.  That was a big thing.  I have performed before, but this was something special.

The concert, and that you spoke English during the whole week.  It was very difficult for us.

It was fun to try a new way in music.  I will remember the concert.  It was also interesting to be taught in English.

All the fun we had – also nice to meet other people.

I will remember the concert at the theatre.

All the different instruments with the funny sounds.

Anything else...?

Dear Robert,  A little greeting from me.  I can’t find anything wrong with you, and it was very funny to make that project, and my family was very proud of us, they say to me: “That you could make that big project in just 3 days, that’s fantastic, I’m so proud of you!”  I hope I meet you another time.   [Tanja]

I think that it was very fun to try.  I hope that you will come again another time.  It was a good concert.  [Maria]

I hope that you come back to make a new piece with us.  Will you please write and tell us about your new work.  [Louise]

I think it was fun to have this project.  I think we should do it another time if you ever come to Denmark.  The concert was on television that night.  [Heidi]

I think it was a great concert, and some very special days, here in Horsens.  If you ever come to Denmark again to play music with some children – I’d like to be in it.  [Lykke]

If you ever come to Horsens again, you’ll have to visit us.  [Mads]

I hope you think it was good fun to teach us some music because I think it was fun as well.  I hope we are going to meet again some day!  [Nanna]

I would like to join a concert again as a musician.  It was nice to meet you and I miss you.  [Cecilie]

It has been very nice to join the project.  I wish it had lasted at least 5 or 6 days.  I wish that we can meet again, or that you write to us.  [Anna]

I have had a good experience making music with you and the others.  Sometimes it was difficult to understand you, but I have learned a lot.  [Kamilla]

You played very well at your trombone.  It was funny to be taught in English.  [Rasmus]

We have only been taught English for two years so it was difficult, but I enjoyed it.  It was nice to meet you.  [Sonne]

I think the music project was great and good fun too.  I learned a little about music and it would be nice if we met again.  I hope you’ll continue visiting children in other countries.  [Malene]

I hope you come back and make some other music with us.  It was difficult with your language, but I understood it anyway.  [Ida]

I hope you had a nice travel home.  I think we had some very good days together with you.  I enjoyed the new way of making sounds.  [Kristian]

I think the music project was very interesting and I have learnt a lot about the instruments and of course the concert was a great experience.  [Louise]
